I Love Lucy

If you love colour and you also love crochet head to Lucy's blog called Attic 24
I made this little gem on the weekend, using one of Lucy's patterns
Its a very simple idea but very cute I thought.
So collect all of you used glass jars and hey presto a bit of hooking and you have a one of a kind handmade vase.
I will use mine on my stall table for the Bazaar this weekend

Baby Zebra Hat

I love newborns, we all do I guess.  In the off season for warm wintry hats newborn props seem to be the logical choice to concentrate on.  I have a couple of great photographers who use my props and share photos for my on line shop.
This is the latest photo from Moffat Photography.
I love this photo of my little Zebra Hat.
Thank you to Moffat Photography for sharing such a beautiful photo

Teddy Bear Beanie

Teddy Bear Beanie
Its obviously off season for crocheted woollen hats here in Australia, especially in Brisbane. So I have been searching my brain for what I could make that might sell at markets and on Madeit.com.au.  Newborn hats and photo props are always in season I guess so that is what I am going to concentrate on during the warmer months. Also I will be trying to create some of my own little hats and get patterns down to share on Ravelry......oh I would love that!
So here is my Teddy Bear hat. The main section of the hat was my own creation, and proudly seamless.
The ears were beyond my imagination or ability to make on the spot so I made them using "Osito Infant Bear Hat" by Mia Zamora Johnson - Via Ravelry.
I used Bendigo Wool Mill  - 100% Cotton - Latte. Its an 8ply yarn so I doubled up the yarn and this works well for a more chunky look.  Its such a soft yarn, perfect for little babies.

Seamless Beanie

Oh I love a hat without any obvious unsightly seams.

Most of the patterns I come across for simple beanies using either Double Crochet or Half Double Crochet have rounds that begin with 2 to 3 chain heights .  This is needed to begin each round using this method but unfortunately it leaves an obvious seam of chains which I assume should sit at the back of the head of the person sporting the beanie.

I think the best option to have a beautiful flow of rows is to begin the beanie a little differently. In the bottom photo you can see how it comes together.

Pattern:

10ply Worsted Weight Yarn of choice

5.5mm Hook

CH 4 and join to first chain Slip Stitch

Row 1: 2 CH and then 11 DC into ring (stitch marker here)

Row 2: 2 DC into the top of 2CH and continue 2 DC into each DC of previous row

Row 3: 2 DC and then 1DC continue until stitch marker

Row4: 2 DC and then 2 – 1DC continue until stitch marker

Row 5: 2 DC and then 3 – 1 DC continue until stitch marker
Continue increases as needed for size of beanie you would like
To complete the hat or end the row just choose anytime to do a couple of Half Double Crochets in a row in a tight tension followed by a couple of Single Crochet to graduate the height of the row a bit more.
In the bottom photo you can see the row before the grey row has this graduated height of stitches occuring to get it as flush as possible for a new colour to come in. It can appear not exactly perfect but I think well worth it to remove the seam.
Happy Crocheting!

Copenhagen Pillow

I made this pillow just before Xmas last year and I am still in love with it.  I really enjoy making things but I have a sense of sadness when I don't see them again.  This little cushion was a present for my sweet Mother in law so it lives in Nelson NZ.  We were there recently and I got to see it in all its glory, pride of place on their lounge.....so proud!  I took the photo of the cushion with Daisy Daisy Daddy's childhood teddy bear which our boys loved too.
There is nothing sweeter then giving...........http://www.ravelry.com/projects/DaisyDaisy17/copenhagen-pillow-2
